Students Participate in Annual Spelling Bee

The 2019 Magnolia School District Spelling Bee was a memorable one! The rain may have delayed the Bee, but it certainly did not stop it. The two top spellers from each of our 9 schools participated in the very intense competition. Students successfully spelled words such as extravaganza, gregarious, capricious and cauliflower.

Students Attend Saturday School Session

On Saturday, December 8, almost 350 fourth through sixth grade students attended a four hour Saturday School session. Offered for the first time in Magnolia School District, this four hour session was designed to provide students with fun, engaging learning activities while making up some lost learning time from being absent.

Robotics teams participate in Orange County Competition

Magnolia School District continues to thrive in the area of Technology. Recently teams from Dr. Albert Schweitzer, Robert M. Pyles STEM Academy, and Mattie Lou Maxwell Schools participated in the FIRST Lego League Robotics competition. Each team had to design a robot to perform various tasks on the competition board. The teams scored points based on how many tasks they completed as well as their individual robot design. In the robot game Maxwell School placed 7th, Schweitzer was only one point behind in 8th and Pyles’ first-year team had a good showing at 17th.

Schweitzer Students Learn about Robots in Space

Dr. Albert Schweitzer students are taking an in-depth look at life in space. As part of this project, Schweitzer scholars engaged in a roundtable discussion with Food Services Director Brendan Shields and Food Services Manager Odezza Larida about preparing to travel into space and what food would be needed. The expert Food Services team answered students’ questions and provided valuable insights on how to plan a menu that met the nutrition requirements for space travel.

7th Annual Chess Tournament is Bigger than Ever

On Saturday, May 19th, 2018 Success Through Chess hosted the 7th annual Magnolia School District chess tournament at Baden-Powell School. The day was filled with concentration, focus, tears, cheers, as students played individually for the first part of the day, then team chess or “bughouse” with their classmates against other District students!

Magnolia Students Excel at City of Anaheim Poster Contest

Three Magnolia School District Students received top honors at the Anaheim Beautiful Community Pride Poster Contest. Elias Leon III, 1st Grade from Dr. Albert Schweitzer; Kassandra Prieto, 5th Grade from Dr. Peter Marshall and Arlette Florencio, 6th Grade from Esther L. Walter were recognized at the Anaheim City Council Meeting on Tuesday, May 15th and received a family four pack of Disneyland Resort Park Hopper tickets.

Students, Parents, and Staff enjoy live performances and great food during the fifth annual Magnolia Education Enrichment Foundation (MEEF).

For the last five years, the month of May has signaled the time for the annual MEEF Food and Fun Festival. This year was the biggest festival to date! Gourmet food trucks had a fantastic food variety for sale, from Flying Hawaiian Sliders to Korean BBQ Beef Bowls.

Live performances included musical selections by members of the Advanced Magnolia School District Band, Patriotic songs by 2nd Graders from across the district, Juliette Low School of the Arts student’s reenacted parts of their yearly musical, Disney School Polynesian Dancers showed their skill, and Hula and Flamenco Dancers provided a splendid finale to the student performances.
